Attach tape for tree trunks Tear the tape (don’t cut with scissors) Trunks should start in the bottom half of the page Tops of trees go ‘off-the-page’ Attach a few torn strips (branches) In the upper half of the page Draw a horizon line across the page (lightly with pencil)

3 Introducing Watercolour
A watery, transparent medium Pan watercolours require several ‘scoops’ of water to be added (very little pigment is required) Watercolour brush – holds lots of water! (Tip: Hold the paint brush just like your pencil in your printing hand!) PREP… tape down all 4 sides of the FOLDED paper

Wax Crayon Wet the paper (sky) Apply watercolour Know when to stop Wet the paper (sky) Apply watercolour Sprinkle salt Know when to stop Wet the paper (sky) Apply watercolour Apply another colour Know when to stop

Use pale greyish-blue watercolour for shadows Decide on the direction of the LIGHT SOURCE Shadow: Start at the base of the tree Apply paint in a diagonal line AWAY from light source Set aside to dry till next time!

Remove the ‘tree’ tape Use a DRY BRUSH to add curved birch bark

Paint a fence meandering behind the trees Add shadows for the fence (same light source!)

Allow paint to dry Remove any remaining tape Sign with pencil in bottom, right corner
