Which is a brain chemical that communicates information throughout our brain and whole entire body. It is also known as the “feel good” chemical. It is what makes us happy and the creator of cravings and addictions. Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, n.d. Web. 16 Dec Cashin-Garbutt, April. "What Is Dopamine?" News-Medical.net. 3 history of dopamine Dopamine was synthesized in 1910 by George Barger and James Ewens in London, England. It was first identified in the human brain by Kathleen Montagu in Then in 1958, Nils-Eke Hillarp and Avid Carlson discovered that dopamine was a neurotransmitter. "Neurogistics." 4 History (cont’d..) Avid Carlsson was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology/ Medecin for the demonstration that dopamine is not only a precursor(*) of norepinephrine(**) and epinephrine (***) but a neurotransmitter. * A chemical that participates in a chemical reaction and creates another compound. **Chemical released in respondence to stress. ***Adrenaline "Carlsson." Carlsson. N.p., n.d. Web. 16 Dec

5 history (cont’d..) One of the experiments that Carlsson performed to discover that dopamine was a neurotransmitter involved injecting rabbits with reserpine(*). He did this to stop nerve terminals receiving these transmitters. Due to this the rabbits became immobile. Though when they were injected with the dopamine precursor(**) levo-dopa(***) it restored their motor functions. Which proved how dopamine was a neurotransmitter. *** A chemical that is naturally found in the body but can also become a epinephrine or a norepinephrine * A drug that stops the uptake numerous neurotransmitters. ** A chemical that participates in a chemical reaction and creates another compound. 7 how Dopamine is synthesized
Dopamine is synthesized biologically in your body. Dopamine starts as a molecule know as Tyrosine. From there its transformed by an enzyme called tyrosine hydroxylase. This is the slowest step when forming dopamine (Scientist will often change the levels in animals to monitor the creation of dopamine). Tyrosine hydroxylase turns Tyrosine into the last molecule before dopamine called L- Dopa also knows as the drug Levodopa. From there it is changed into dopamine by AADC. Once created Dopamine is used in your body as either a neurotransmitter or a hormone. "Back to Basics 4: Dopamine!" Neurotic Physiology. Scicurious, 26 Aug Web. 15 Dec @PsychToday. "Dopamine Primer." 8 Properties of dopamine
"Properties." Dopamine. N.p., n.d. Web. 16 Dec Properties of dopamine Dopamine is classified in the catecholamine(*) class. It is synthesized within the body from within the cells and can also be created from any of the three amino acids, which are provided from natural foods. The neurotransmitter is then stored and released when it is needed to make a physiological affect on the body. Dopamine is solid that is colourless. It has a molecular weight of Its melting point is 128 degrees celsius. It doesn't have a boiling point, because once it hits its boiling point it decomposes. Dopamine plays a critical role in movement, pleasure, motivation and controlling the flow of information in your brain. *Substances in charge for our fight-or-flight response due to stress The Role of Neurotransmitter Dopamine in Movement and Cognition. 9 Dopamines use in society
"Collier's." The Addictive Brain: All Roads Lead to Dopamine | Collier's. N.p., n.d. Web. 16 Dec Dopamines use in society When someone takes drugs their dopamine rises to a level that it cant normally reach naturally The brains loves the feeling of pleasure, which means that you will begin to become addicted to the drugs that make you produce more dopamine However the more you take, the less is created naturally, meaning that you will be driven to take more and more. Dopamine is also associated with actions like eating. It is a comfort for the majority of people and the dopamine that we create through this, is the reason why people are obese. 30% of humans are born with low dopamine, which leads to mental illness such as depression. Companies use dopamine to trick you into buying their items. An everyday example is food samples in supermarkets. Once you have a delicious sample, your dopamine stats running, making you wanting more and almost in a way forcing you to buy more food than you originally anticipated to.c Matthew Woodward, Pro Blogger Follow. 10 Problems with dopamine
Dopamine is very important to making your body function properly Dopamine makes you happy so with out it people may feel moody, apathetic and fatigued. Dopamine plays a major role in metal disorders. Problems such as depression, Parkinson’s disease and ADHD. Another problem with Dopamine is that it decomposes fairly quickly in the body therefore, it will not reach the brain. It will have decomposed to fast. If you have a Dopamine deficiency it will be of no help for you to take dopamine pills. You must take L- Dopa which will then produce the Dopamine you need.
