1 Monday January 22, 2018 Supplies: Natural Selection and Adaptation Workbook Pencil Agenda Chromebook 7.11C TEK: Identify some changes in genetic traits that have occurred over several generations through natural selection and selective breeding such as the Galapagos Medium Ground Finch or domestic animals. Learning Target: By the end of class, students will be able to explain if the genetic changes in organisms are a result of natural selection or selective breeding. Science Starter: Answer the TEK 7.11C questions on pg. 2 School Agenda: 1/22—Natural Selection Gizmo and introduce Selective Breeding

Wednesday January 24, 2018 Supplies: Natural Selection and Adaptation Workbook Pencil Agenda Chromebook 7.11C TEK: Explain variation within a population or species by comparing external features, behaviors, or physiology of organisms that enhance their survival such as migration, hibernation, or storage of food in a bulb. Learning Target: By the end of class, students will be able to explain why some animals migrate or hibernate and why plants store food in a bulb. Science Starter: pg. 2 (7.11B TEK) School Agenda: 1/24—Migration, Hibernation, & Food Storage in a Bulb

11 Answer the following questions
Thursday January 25, 2018 Supplies: Natural Selection and Adaptation Workbook Pencil Agenda Comparing a Human and Avian Skeleton Worksheet 7.11C TEK: Investigate and explain how internal structures of organisms have adaptations that allow specific functions such as gills in fish, hollow bones in birds, or xylem in plants. Learning Target: By the end of class, students will be able to compare a bird skeleton to a human skeleton. Science Starter: Answer the following questions pg. 3—TEK 7.12A Pg. 7—1D, 1E, 3A, 3B, 5AB School Agenda: 1/25—Adaptations

12 Answers to pgs. 3, 7, 8 Pg. 3 (7.12A) What do gills do to keep fish alive? Gills allow fish to breathe under water. How do hollow bones benefit birds? Hollow bones are lighter and allow for lift and birds are able to fly. Xylem flow in Plants? Xylem tube moves water from the root of the plant to the leaves so photosynthesis may occur. Pg. 7. 1D— a. Adaptations in flight 1E-- adaptation 3A— b. The size of the eyes 3B— b. Frequent droughts 5AB—d. Hollow bones provide strength with less mass.
