1 Positive Behavior Intervention Systems
P.B.I.S. Positive Behavior Intervention Systems

2 What does P.B.I.S. mean to students?
It means that teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff are going to take responsibility to TEACH positive behavior expectations to students. It also means that students will know exactly what is expected of them and exactly what consequences will result when they choose NOT to meet school-wide expectations (all of us will be “on the same page”). Finally, students who take responsibility to behave in a positive way will be recognized and rewarded in a variety of ways.

3 How will I know what is expected of me as a student at G.T.J.M.S.?
Students at G.T.J.M.S. will RESPECT TOS! T=Task at hand O=Others S=Self

4 Brainstorm T.O.S. Take some time to brainstorm with your teacher what is meant by T=Task at hand, O=Others, S=Self

5 What will happen if I do not respect T.O.S.?
Step 1-Verbal Warning(s) Step 2-Take some “Time Out” and fill out a “Time Out Slip” or “TOS.” (This is your chance to change your behavior and make a good decision-it’s not a detention or anything like that)! **This slip will be signed by your parent**

6 What is a T.O.S.? Teachers-go ahead and take a moment to fill out a T.O.S. with your students. This way students will know what is expected.

7 So What? Guess What! If you get your “TOS” signed by your guardian at home, we will reward your responsible actions by returning you to Step1! “You’re Welcome!”

8 So….What if I don’t remember to get it signed?
You’ll move on to the next steps! Step 3-Phone Call Home (you might even be making the call) Step 4-After School Detention (wait until you see how different ASD is this year). :0) Step 5-Office Referral (2 hour detention, suspension, we’ll be as creative as we need to be)

9 What if there is something my teacher can do to help me avoid getting to steps 3-5?
Talk to your teacher to let them know if there is something simple that might help him or her to work with you better or that might help you to be more successful in class! We’re here to help you be the best you can be!

10 What kinds of positive things do I get if I RESPECT T.O.S.?
1-A good feeling about what kind of person you have chosen to be. 2-T.J.’s will be given to recognize/reward students who respect T.O.S. 3-Raffles will be held frequently throughout the year and grade level teams are planning events (you’ll need those T.J.’s.) 4-T.J.’s can be turned in to money at the school store. 5-Teachers may allow T.J.’s to have some trade in value in their classrooms (you forgot your book/materials---your teacher might let you trade in some T.J.’s for extra materials).

11 T.J.’s are different than last year!
Take some time to compare last year’s T.J. to this year’s T.J.
