2 Do-Now November 1st In the Obama speech at Selma, how does Obama encourage Americans to continue the legacy of the Selma protestors? Use the Ace method.

( Main Skill). RI Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. ( RACE METHOD)

5 How can I identify the central idea in a passage?

6 Today we will be taking our CFA.
Start on # 26 on the BLUE side of the scantron. Once you finish your exam, turn it in to me, and finish your central idea graphic organizer. If you finish your central idea graphic organizer, turn it in your class basket and use a separate sheet of paper get the Ethos and Pathos handout from the table by the computer cart. Honors must also use the central idea graphic organizer and write a 3 paragraph summary about the Obama Selma Anniversary Speech.

8 Central Idea Definition
CENTRAL IDEA refers to what the author’s main point is. Hint: A text can consist of graphs, charts, and pictures. Central idea is NOT the topic of the text. Hint: The topic is who or what the writing is about. Central idea can most often be stated in one sentence.

(3)The remaining 92 percent consists of various gases, the most dangerous of which is carbon monoxide. (4) In tobacco smoke, the concentration of carbon monoxide is 800 times higher than the level considered safe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). (5) In the human body, carbon monoxide reduces the oxygen- carrying capacity of the red blood cells by binding with the receptor sites for oxygen.
