4 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) are defined as colleges, universities, or systems/districts where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes a minimum of 25% of the total enrollment.  “Total Enrollment” includes full-time and part-time students at the undergraduate or graduate level (including professional schools) of the institution, or both (i.e., headcount of for-credit students). What is an HSI?

5 Funds given to HSI's may be used for activities such as: scientific or laboratory equipment for teaching; construction or renovation of instructional facilities; faculty development; purchase of educational materials; academic tutoring or counseling programs; funds and administrative management; joint use of facilities; endowment funds; distance learning academic instruction; teacher education; and student support services Benefits of HSI’s

6 Tutoring services, especially in English and Mathematics
Extensive academic and career counseling for Hispanic Students Financial aid and scholarship workshops  Guidance to effectively integrate to campus. For example, there are many HSIs who have professionals serving as advisors to on campus organizations and creating programs for retention Services at HSI’s
