Mayan Civilization Scientific and Technological

2 Science and Astronomy Between approx. 300 and 900 A.D., the Maya were responsible for a number of remarkable scientific achievements. During that time they developed a complex understanding of astronomy as well as figured out how to grow corn, bean, squash, and cassava in some inhospitable places. They also built elaborate cities without modern technology, how to communicate using one of the world’s first written language systems, and how to measure time with 2 complicated calendar systems.

-ancient mayans invented a calendar that took remarkable accuracy and complexity -they were able to make calendars because they were skilled mathematics -this calendar was adopted by other mesoamerican nations like the Toltecs and the Aztecs

8 Agriculture important things that Mayans ever did.
Agriculture was one of the most important things that Mayans ever did. It allowed them to stay in one place and have much more food. It also allowed them to vary the food they ate. Mayans planted all kinds of plants like cassava, corns, beans, and squash.

9 Agriculture cont. Mayans didn't arrive in a random area and plant. Mayans spent a lot of time cleaning up the soil so they could plant crops. Agriculture impacted the Mayans majorly. There population grew. They grew bigger and stronger. This also expanded the life expectancy. They planted the crops near the Yucatan Peninsula so they could easily get water for the crops.

The Mayans used math to see when the next eclipse is, market transitions, or to make new calendars. In Mayan math they used Shells, Seeds, and Sticks to add and subtract. The Mayans counted by twenties not by tens. 1 6 GAME

Mayans also were talented artists .The middle class of the mayans was Craftsmen, Traders, and warriors .In the Mayan civilization most Mayans were farmers . Mayans were such good farmers that they grew to much food.
