1 Letters from an Apostle
1st, 2nd, and 3rd John

2 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
1 John 5:21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.

3 (1) You shall have no other gods before me.
Exodus 20 / Deut 5 (1) You shall have no other gods before me. (2) You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them

4 Exodus 32 3 So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. 4 He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “This is your god, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.” 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the Lord.” 6 So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.

5 Is 40:18 With whom, then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken him? Is 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Psalm 115:8 Those who make idols are like them; so are all who trust in them.

6 Exodus 33 17 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.” 18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” 19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”

7 Exodus 34 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.” 8 Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped.

8 Heb 1:1 In the past God spoke to our
Heb 1:1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways Rom 15:4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Deut 29:29 The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.

9 1 Cor 15:1-5 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve.

10 Colossians 1:15 The Son is the image of the invisible
Colossians 1:15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 1:19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form

11 Hebrews 1:1-3 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

12 1 John 2:22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ.
3:23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ 4: 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God 4:15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God

13 1 John 5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world
1 John 5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God 5:11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 5:20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life

14 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.
