The Gospel of the Kingdom

Acts 1:3  3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

Acts 28:30–31  30 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. 31 Boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 28:30-31 Acts 1:3 Between Acts 1 and Acts 28, the Kingdom of God moved in and through those who surrendered their lives to Christ the King.

Kingdom ( βασιλεία/ Basileia )  “a term relating to royal administration” kingship, royal power, royal rule.  A Greek-English lexicon of the New Testament and other early Christian Literature

The Kingdom is…  It is the rule and reign of God.  The order of God in our lives.  It is an already and not yet reality.

Exodus 34:6–7  6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The L ORD, the L ORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.”

Three Kingdom Principles 1. The Principle of Kings  Cannot be voted in or out of power.  Psalm 93:2  2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.

2. The King is also Lord  Everything belongs to the Lord  Psalm 24:1–2 1 The earth is the L ORD ’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.

3. The King sets the constitution and laws.  The documented will, desires, intent, and purposes of the king for his citizens and kingdom.  The decree of the King is unchanging.

Psalm 119:16  16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

Psalm 119:89–93  89 Your word, O L ORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. 91 Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. 92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. 93 I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life.

Ecclesiastes 8:4–5  4 Since a king’s word is supreme, who can say to him, “What are you doing?” 5 Whoever obeys his command will come to no harm, and the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure.

John 3:3, 5  3 In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”  5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

Matthew 4:17  17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Matthew 7:21  21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Luke 18:16–17  16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

Romans 10:9  9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
