1 IF13 series: Power cord with Input EMC Filter
Purpose: Provide an introduction to Schaffner IF13 series Objectives: Highlight features and benefits of the series Selection Table Typical Applications Contents: 8 pages Learning Time: 5 minutes Welcome to Schaffner’s IF13 series product training module. This tutorial will provide an introduction to Schaffners new IF13, in line, filtered power cords.  It will also highlight the IF13’s features and benefits, part number structure and typical applications.

2 IF13 series: Power cord with Input EMC Filter
Single- and dual-stage configuration The IF13 power cords are available in single stage (standard performance) and dual stage (high performance) filtering options.  All power cords use shielded wires and most have an additional ferrite coating around the wires.  There are versions with a USA plug, a European plug or stripped ends allowing the user to attach any desired plug type. For applications without and IEC inlet, there is a USA plug type with stripped end. Therefore, IF13 cords can be utilized in various applications around the world.  Since the filtering components are integrated into the power cord itself, they do not occupy any additional space and there are no assembly requirements.  The IF13 filtered power cord provides an easy to implement solution to your last minute EMC filtering needs.

3 IF13 Filters: features and benefit
Voltage: 250VAC up to 60Hz Rated currents up to 10 Operating/ Storage temperature -25 to +70 degrees C Effective Frequency Band: 10kHz-300MHz Easy to use and integrate in given design Single- and dual-stage designs UL approvals available IF13 power cords are suitable for 120VAC (60Hz) and 230VAC (50Hz) applications.  They are rated up to 10A at an ambient temperature of 40°C.  The series is RoHS compliant, and carries global safety approvals.  The filtered power cord is a perfect addition to any application using a standard power cord to help achieve EMC certification where space and time is a premium.

4 Selection Table The Filter and cable selection tables can be found within the datasheet allowing designers to choose the best option for their application based on performance, input and output connection type.

5 Part Numbering and Examples:
IF13-US3-SVT-3100-NF-200: IEC cable assembly with input EMC Filter, IEC C13 connector, without ferrite coated cable, US version, length 200 cm IF SE-US3-H WF-200: IEC cable assembly with input EMC Filter, stripped output, with ferrite coated cable, US version, length 200 cm The part numbering begins with "IF" for “IEC Filtered”. This is followed by 13 (C13 socket) or SE (Stripped wire End).  The country wall plug is then identified followed by the cable type and wire details.  The next two digits identify if the wires have a ferrite coating or no ferrite coating.  Finally the last three digits state the length of the cable.  All cord options utilize shielded wiring. Examples: IF13-US3-SVT-3100-NF-200:   IEC C13 integrated filtered connector, with US plug integrated filter, SVT type wire, 18AWG, without ferrite coated cable, with a length of 200 cm IF SE-US3-H WF-200: IEC cable with stripped wire, with US plug integrated filter, H05 type wire, 18AWG, with ferrite coated cable, with a of length 200 cm

6 Attenuation and Resonance Frequency:
Typical Attenuation or Insertion Loss of the cords can be found within the datasheet.  It is important to note that the cords provide good attenuation beyond 30MHz. Up to and beyond 400MHz. Typical EMC filters, offer good performance up to 30MHz so the IF cords complement and enhance the overall EMC filtering in any application.

7 Typical Applications Some typical applications for IF13 power cords include AC filtering for all single phase cord connected devices, datacenters, medical and laboratory devices, along with security applications and situations where high frequency attenuation is required. The IF cords can mitigate both radiated and conducted emission interferences while also providing additional immunity protection to your device.

They easily integrate an EMC solution to any device.  The series consists of one or two stage filtering options providing a range of attenuation needs and includes wire end options allowing you to easily integrate your desired plug or connector onto the filtered cord.  IF13 cords can also complement Schaffner IEC inlet and Chassis mount filters by enhancing the performance from 150kHz to 400MHz.
