George Washington chosen by the Second Continental Congress to lead the Army
The Declaration of Independence is signed on July 4th, 1776

5. Bunker Hill
British attempted to clear the Americans off Bunker Hill outside of Boston
Attacked in the hot sun
British “victory”, despite losing half their 4,000 men
“Don’t fire ‘til you see the whites of their eyes”

6. Saratoga Turning point in the war, October 1777
British invasion from Canada is repulsed at Saratoga, New York
Benedict Arnold led the Americans
Brought French into the war

7. Yorktown Final major battle of the war October 1781
Defeat for the English; “end” of war

8. Treaty of Paris Signed in 1783, in Paris Official end to the war
America wins!
