2. What do catalysts do? They speed up reactions.
But they don't get used up in the reaction.

Example: Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)
This chemical breaks do to form water and oxygen
It happens at room temperature but catalysts make it go faster!

4. Practical
This is an investigation to see how different catalysts affect the rate of a reaction.
Measure 20ml of 10vol hydrogen peroxide into a 100ml measuring cylinder
Add 3ml of washing up liquid
Add either some potato pieces or manganese dioxide (1 spatula)
Measure how much foam is produced per second for 30 seconds (you decide how)
Show the results as a graph and write a conclusion

5. How do they work?
They basically lower the amount of energy needed for a reaction to happen.
If it needs less energy to get started it happens faster

6. When are the used? In many industrial processes.
Because less energy is used they save money and fuel.
Examples include the plastics industry and making fertiliser.
