1. Male Reproductive Anatomy

Take notes on the purpose or function of each part.

2. Side view of the male reproductive system.
External parts (outside the body) penis (#4) and scrotum (#7).
All other parts are inside the body.
This presentation is entirely on the side view portion. You will fill in the front view at the end.

3. External parts: penis and scrotum.
Purpose of scrotum: to hold the testicles (“testes”) at the proper temperature: degrees.
Will move toward or away from the body to manage the temperature.

4. Testicles (“testes”) Males have two. Produce sperm, the male sex cell
Produce testosterone, the male sex hormone.
Testosterone gives males a deeper voice, broader shoulders, and other characteristics of an adult male.

5. Epididymis Long tube coiled in the back of the scrotum.
Sperm stay here for 2-3 months while they mature.

6. Vas deferens (plural: vasa deferens)
Two, one from each epididymis.
Sperm travel through this tube, past his bladder, then out the urethra.
Bladder: where urine (“pee”) is stored. Has no part in the reproductive system.

7. Urethra Tube that runs through the penis.
In the male, it has two jobs:
Urination (part of urinary system)
Ejaculation (part of reproductive system).
On the way out, sperm gather fluids called semen.

Contribute sugars to help nourish sperm on their long journey.
