1 Decorating Your Shoe: Lesson 14

2 Why might we want to use it in our shoe?
Connector: For a positive point who knows what appliqué is? Why might we want to use it in our shoe? Sewing 1 piece of fabric onto another in a decorative shape or as a logo

3 Learning Objective All will use beads, sequins or the
running stitch to decorate their shoe. Most will appliqué on a design or a logo. Few will add a bow or laces.

4 Big Picture Connector/Discussion: Describe the key words.
Demonstration: Appliqué, catch stitch, adding laces/ribbon. Individual time to; 1) Sew beads, sequins to shoe. 2) Embroider shoe with the running stitch. 3) Cut and appliqué on shapes. 4) Add bow or laces. Review: Gallery view of work.

5 How to decorate a shoe? 1) Thread the needle through the centre of the bead and then back through the fabric. 2) To use the running stitch push your needle down into the felt and up again in 1 movement to make 1 stitch. 3) Draw and cut out your appliqué shape and position it on your shoe. 4) Use the catch stitch to attach your appliqué shape. Go through both pieces of felt and over 1 side of the appliqué. 5) To add laces use a pencil to pierce the felt along the toe for a place to thread the laces through. 6) Thread the laces through the holes of the felt and tie a ribbon.

6 Mid Review Have I... Made my stitches neat (the same size and space apart)? Sewn on my beads/sequins or appliqué with small and neat stitches so the thread cannot be easily seen? Sewn on my beads/sequins or appliqué tightly so they are secure and not falling off? Cut out my appliqué shapes neatly without jagged edges? Pierced the holes of my felt to add the laces an the same size and space apart?

7 Large fabric can be given to the teacher.
How to prepare Felt Place your work back into your folder for safety, scrap can now go in the bin. Large fabric can be given to the teacher.

8 Final Gallery Review: Bring work round central table to discuss...
Whose shoe is neatly sewn together? And how? Who has added decoration to their shoe most neatly? And how? Who has used their sewing techniques most creatively? And how? Shows ideas from their final shoe design in their design sheet? How have they done this? Has used ideas most creatively from Hundertwasser? How have they done this?
