2 What is a Midwife? Health professionals who provide primary care to a pregnant mother and her baby during pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postpartum* period. They are preferred when a mother needs additional care, wants additional information, doesn't support traditional hospitals or other personal reasons. * The period after the birth.

3 What Makes a Good Midwife?
Are you : Outgoing Friendly A good conversationalist Good with new people Positive in most situations Good with handling mood swings Passionate about helping others A good decision maker Determined Good at taking control Thoughtful Attentive Informative Do you: Have a calming attitude Have a good sense of humor Have a calming voice If you answered yes to most/all of these questions, then you should consider being a midwife!

4 How does it pay? A registered midwife, depending on their area of residence, can make anywhere from $ $ yearly.

5 How much schooling is required?
Approximately 4 years (full-time) or 5-6 (part-time) to get a Bachelors Degree then depending on if you want to specialize in a field, it could take another 2 years for a Post-Baccalaureate.

6 Available Schooling Options
#1 : The University of British Colombia Midwifery: Bachelor Degree This 4-year program is designed to give insight into the realities of Midwifery. The program consists preparation and informative lessons on the field. Prerequisites: BIOL 153 – Human Biology ENGL 112 – Strategies for University Writing

7 Available Schooling Options
#2: Ryerson University – Toronto, Ontario Midwifery Education Program A 4-year program for full-time students, 5-6 for part-time, with a 2-year Post-Baccalaureate Program leading to a Bachelor degree in Health Sciences. It is a program designed to teach students how to properly and safely deliver children and provide care for mothers and their newborns.
