1 Paclitaxel coating on the terminal portion of hemodialysis grafts effectively suppresses neointimal hyperplasia in a porcine model  Insu Baek, PhD, Jinsun Hwang, MS, Jihye Park, MS, Heasun Kim, BS, Jong-Sang Park, PhD, Dae Joong Kim, MD  Journal of Vascular Surgery  Volume 61, Issue 6, Pages e1 (June 2015) DOI: /j.jvs Copyright © 2015 Society for Vascular Surgery Terms and Conditions

B, Graft wall and vessel region of the cross section. ePTFE, Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene. 3 Fig 2 Diagram of the method for the ratio of intragraft hyperplasia to graft area (H/G ratio). The area of the graft (G), the area of hyperplastic tissue (A and B) enclosed by the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) graft, and a line drawn across the mouth of the graft were measured with Aperio ImageScope software. The H/G ratio was obtained by dividing the area of neointima (A + B) by the graft area (G). 4 Fig 3 Cumulative in vitro release profiles of two kinds of paclitaxel (Ptx)-coated grafts, made either by dipping the graft into the drug dissolved in acetone or by the terminal graft-coating method with tert-butanol. Data are the mean of five experiments, and the bars represent the standard deviations. 5 Fig 4 Cross sections of arterial anastomosis 6 weeks after implantation (Masson trichrome stain). A and B, Control group. C and D, Paclitaxel terminally coated group. E and F, Paclitaxel whole-coated group. The neointima is visible as areas stained pale blue. E and F, Paclitaxel whole-coated group. The neointima is visible as areas stained pale blue. 9 Supplementary Fig (online only)
Scanning electron microscope images of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) grafts (magnification ×500): the inside (A) and outside (B) of the uncoated graft, and the inside (C) and outside (D) of the terminal paclitaxel-coated graft. No distinct differences were observed in the surface morphologies of the ePTFE grafts.
