Starter activity Q3 Do you use technology in an environmentally responsible way?

Stakeholder Objectives
BEGINNER: Define the term key stakeholder. ADVANCED: Understand how key stakeholders are affected by technology. EXPERT: Recognise and discuss issues related to Environmental, Cultural, Morals & Ethics. A person who may be involved either directly, or indirectly with an issue/problem. Most issues and problems will have many stakeholders, some may be obvious, some may be less obvious. For high-banded responses (marks) you should be able to identify more than just the ‘obvious’. Computer Science has developed new software/robotics that means that Nuclear Power is now 100% safe to use! There are now plans to convert all of the UK’s energy supply to Nuclear Power. Starter activity Create a mind map to identify stakeholders and how they could be effected.

Ethics/Morals Can you define ethics and morals?
Objectives BEGINNER: Define the term key stakeholder. ADVANCED: Understand how key stakeholders are affected by technology. EXPERT: Recognise and discuss issues related to Environmental, Cultural, Morals & Ethics. Morals and Ethics are slightly different but work along the same ideas. It is something that may feel wrong, or be unacceptable – but doesn’t actually break a law. Can you define ethics and morals? MORAL ETHICAL Starter activity Behaving in ways considered by most people to be correct and honest. In accordance with principles of conduct that are considered correct, especially those of a given profession. You will often find that professional bodies have “Code of Ethics” which members must follow.

Cultural Cultural issues may cover things like: Objectives

Cultural issues may cover things like: -Languages/Character Sets What are character sets and how do they affect communication? -Colours/Dates/Numbers Are certain colours used differently across different countries? -Use of social media Does every country allow access to social media in the same way? -Globalisation of Computers Do privacy and computer legislations apply in every country? Starter activity

Environmental Objectives BEGINNER: Define the term key stakeholder. ADVANCED: Understand how key stakeholders are affected by technology. EXPERT: Recognise and discuss issues related to Environmental, Cultural, Morals & Ethics. The impacts of Computer Science on the Environment are both positive and negative. Computers have helped in manufacturing, engineering, surgery, medicine etc. However, generally technology requires electricity to function. Often judgements need to be made as to whether this is a good balance. Also, what happens to old computers/robots etc? Starter activity
