Shrek: Film Techniques

Long Shot Contains landscape and gives the audience a specific view of the setting, scenery and entire body of the character/s. This shot is used to show the subject, as well as the characters body language and relationship with their surroundings.

Medium/Mid Shot Contains the character/s usually from the waist up. From this shot, the audience can see the characters face/s as well as their interaction with other characters or objects. There is background scenery included in the shot.

Close-up Shot Contains one characters face. This allows the audience to understand the characters emotions (personal shot). Used to show expressions or feelings. This shot can sometimes be used to make a character look more powerful.

Extreme close-up Focuses on a small portion of the character face, forcing the audience to focus or concentrate on it to intensify the mood.

High Angle Shot Camera angle that looks down at the character/ object. This makes the character look vulnerable, small or weak.

Low Angle Shot The opposite to the high angle shot as it looks up at the character. This shot make the character look big, powerful, strong, dominant or in control. It can make the audience feel threatened, inferior or intimidated.

Birds eye view/ Aerial shot Looks down upon a scene Shows the audience the setting and location.
