8 On the trail of hidden water
Water consumption for industry represents 22% of the water used worldwide. 70% of water is used for agriculture, while 8% is used in households. Every year industry uses 7,9 billion cubic metres of water from the Danube basin. Furthermore, other 15,400,000,000 cubic meters of water are used for the cooling process. On the trail of hidden water Water is often hidden in products where no one can assume that it exists. For the production of an ordinary car , for example, litres of water is used. 1computer 1tonne iron 1 cotton T-shirt 1 pair of jeans 1 pair of leather shoes 1kg coloured yarn 1l orange juice 1 package of crisps (200gr) 1kg PVC 1 can of soft drink 1 microchip 1 sheet of paper A4
