2 Areas of learning Adding Subtracting Multiplication Division
Missing number problems Fractions Place Value

3 Areas of learning Money Time Data (tally, bar charts etc) Shape
Measures

4 STRATEGIES/METHODS Using and applying
Children should know the strategies and methods to be able to solve a range of problems relating to arithmetic and the other areas of learning. Using and applying Children should be able to use and apply their skills and problem solving methods to word problems and a range of real life contexts.

5 Arithmetic +45 Addition and subtraction 26 + 45 = 13 + 13 + 13 =
82 – 25 = 12 – 3 – 3 = Using and applying: Sarah has 26 marbles. She buys 45 more. How many does she have altogether? 26 +45

6 Arithmetic Multiplication 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 4 + 4 + 4 = . . . . . .
3 x 4 = 12 x 4 = 6 x 5 = Using and applying: John buys 3 bags of apples. Each bag has 4 apples. How many apples does he buy altogether? = = . . . . . .

7 Make 3 groups. Share the number 15 equally.
Arithmetic How many 3s are in 15? Make 3 groups. Share the number 15 equally. Division 15 ÷ 3 = 16 ÷ 4 = 24 ÷ 6 = Using and applying: Sarah has 15 dolls. She sorts them equally into 3 boxes. How many dolls are in each box? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

8 Activity Read and solve the following problem. Show your working out. Terry buys 4 packets of bananas. Each packet has 6 bananas. He eats 3 bananas. How many are left?

9 Arithmetic Missing number problems Complex missing number problems
= 20 = 15 - 12 = 20 Complex missing number problems = 4 x = Subtract 13 from 20 Subtract 15 from 25 Add 12 and 20 What do you multiply 4 by to make 16? What do you add to 15 to make 18?

10 ¼ of 16: Make 4 groups and share 16- count one of the groups.
Arithmetic Fractions ¼ of 8 = ½ of 22 = ¼ of 16: Make 4 groups and share 16- count one of the groups. Using and applying: Jenny has 8 cupcakes. She gives a quarter to her sister. How many does she have left?

11 Activity Carl has 20 football cards. He gives three quarters to his friends. a) How many cards did he give away? b) How many does he have left?

12 Place Value How many tens are in 67? Write a number larger than 30 but less than 50. There are 6 tens in 67 and 7 units. Understanding the terms ‘larger’ and ‘less’.

13 Money Michael buys a packet of crayons and a toy fire truck. He pays with a 50p coin. How much change does he get? Step 1: 12p + 6p = 18p Step 2: 50p – 18p = 32p

14 Money

15 Time Draw the hands on the clock to show the time 12:15.
Short hand points at the hour (12) and the long hand points at the minute (15).

16 Short hand is between 1 and 2.
Time What time is shown on the clock? Short hand is between 1 and 2. Long hand is on 6.

17 Data- aCTIVITY Which option was the least popular?
Which option was the most popular? How many children chose ‘Carols and music’? How many more children chose ‘playing in snow’ rather than ‘Christmas food?’

18 Understanding that a pentagon has 5 sides.
Shape Tick the shape that is a pentagon. Understanding that a pentagon has 5 sides.

19 A vertice is a ‘pointy’ bit.
Shape Tick the shape that has no vertices. A vertice is a ‘pointy’ bit.

20 Measures How much water is in the measuring jug?

21 Measures Measure the longest side of the triangle.
