The Islands form a Barrier that help protect the mainland from Ocean Winds and weather.

The Coastal Plain
It’s flat
The largest physiographic-region in area, roughly 60% of the state.
It is believed that during prehistoric time, this area was covered by ocean.

10. The Coastal Plain
The Ocean Deposited layer after layer of Sediments. This turned into a very rich sedimentary soil, which is the reason why the area is used for farming.
The coastal plain extends about 200 miles inland and covers all of the eastern Atlantic and gulf states all the way down into Mexico.

The Fall Line is a Zone separating the regions of the Coastal plain and the Piedmont.

The Piedmont makes up about 30% of Georgia.
The Region mainly consists of gently rolling hills and many valleys.

Unlike the sandy sediments of the coastal plain, the piedmont is made up of Granite, Gneiss, and Marble Bedrock.
Georgia “Red Clay” comes from the iron and granite deposits left over in the soil.
Stone Mountain is in this region and is an example of exposed Granite.

In the northeast corner of Georgia, are the blue ridge mountains
The Mountains are known for their scenic beauty
The Blue Ridge Mountains Stretch from Northeast Georgia all the way to southern Pennsylvania

17. Blue Ridge Mountains
Brasstown Bald is the highest Mountain in Georgia at over 4784 feet above sea level.
This is the Region with the most rainfall.
Apples are a popular crop here to grow here

The Ridge and Valley is an area of Tall hills and small mountains, with large valleys in between.
The Ridge and Valley Area Stretches from New York to Alabama

19. Also Called the Cumberland Plateau.

A plateau is an area of high land that is flat or gently sloping.

20. Appalachian Plateau
The Appalachian Plateau only takes up two counties in Northwest Georgia, Dade and Walker Counties.
Lookout Mountain and Cloudland Canyon are two popular places in this region
