21 Ridge and VALLEY Description: Fertile farmland Fields of grain, pastures for cattle, apple orchards Known for industry especially textile and carpet manufacturing. Dalton is known as the “Carpet Capital of the World.”

22 BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS Description: Located in northeast corner of Georgia Southern end of the Appalachian Mountains- important to state because precipitation starts here Site of Brasstown Bald – GA’s highest peak at 4,784 feet

23 BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS Description: Soil is mixture of sandy loam and clay Landmarks: Tallulah Gorge, Amicalola Falls, Helen

24 PIEDMONT Description: Begins in foothills of north Georgia and stretches to central part of state Name means foot of the mountain More than half of state’s population lives in the Piedmont

25 PIEDMONT Description: Located on top of granite plateau Known for red clay soil Livestock farming (poultry, hogs, cattle) Traditional farming (wheat, soybeans, corn) Site of Stone Mountain, Kennesaw Mountain and Atlanta

26 COASTAL PLAIN Description: Once the bottom of the ocean floor Can be divided into two smaller regions Inner Coastal Plain- good farmland (peanuts, pecans, onions) Outer Coastal Plain- swamps, marshes, barrier islands, beaches, and deep harbors (seafood gathering and processing, naval stores, international trade)

46  Because of Georgia’s latitude and longitude, the climate is mild with a subtropical feel along the coast. Summers are hot and humid. Winters are mild.  We have 4 distinct seasons.
