This handbook should help you understand what you should be doing as a player in your position. When you play for us there are some other important things you need to remember….. You should always enjoy playing football If you make a mistake it doesn’t matter, that is how we learn to get better Listen to your coaches and try and do what they ask Wear your shirt with pride you are part of the GREEN ARMY!!

3 Football is simple when we think like this.....
When we have the ball: Can we play forward and score? Can we keep it? If not, where can we pass to? When we don't have the ball: Can we get the ball back? If not, can we slow the other team down and stop them from scoring? No matter what our position, we are a team and these are our team goals.

4 Goal Keeper When my team have the ball….
Make sure I'm always in a space where my team can pass to me When I have the ball there is one option….. Pass to a player in space When the other team have the ball….. Always watch where the ball is Be ready for a shot – get set. Goal keepers must be loud and brave! Good examples of ones you could watch include David De Gea (Manchester United) and Sally Thompson (Chichester City Ladies)

5 When my team have the ball…. When the other team have the ball…..
Centre Back When my team have the ball…. Move back (‘drop deep’) towards my goal to be in good space for someone to pass to me (getting BIG) When I h When I have the ball there are two options in this order…. Pass to a player in space (in front, to the side or behind-to the GK!) If we cant make a pass, kick the ball long towards a corner at the other end of the pitch When the other team have the ball….. Get GOAL SIDE Slow down the player first Tackle the player if a team mate is behind me Centre Backs should be strong and should always stay on their feet unless there is no other option! Good examples of ones you could watch include Wes Morgan (Leceister City), John Terry (Chelsea) and Emma Alexandre(Chichester City Ladies)

6 Full Back When my team have the ball….
Get BIG (find space near the touch line) and call for the ball When I have the ball there are three options in this order…. Pass the ball forwards – into the middle or down the line Pass backwards to one of our defenders in space When the other team have the ball….. Get GOAL SIDE Slow down the player first Tackle the player if a team mate is behind me Full Backs should be fast and be able to attack as well as defend. Good examples of ones you could watch include Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Kieran Gibbs(Arsenal) and Lauren Cheshire (Chichester City Ladies)

7 Centre Midfield When my team have the ball….
Find a good space and call for the ball When I h When I have the ball there are three options in this order…. SHOOT and score DRIBBLE the ball then shoot or pass PASS to a player in space When the other team have the ball….. Get GOAL SIDE Slow down the player first Tackle the player if a team mate is behind me Centre midfielders should have lots of energy, be loud and strong! Good examples of ones you could watch include Yaya Toure (Manchester City), Juan Mata (Manchester United) and Becky Barron (Chichester City Ladies)

Wide Midfield When my team have the ball…. Find a space near the touch line (get BIG) and call for the ball When I h When I have the ball there are four options in this order…. SHOOT and score DRIBBLE the ball to shoot or pass Pass to a player in space in front of me Pass to a player in space behind me When the other team have the ball….. Get GOAL SIDE Slow down the player first Then tackle the player if a team mate is behind me Wide midfielders should be fast and skilful, they should be good at defending as well as attacking! Good examples of ones you could watch include Yanick Bolasie (Crystal Palace), Eden Hazard (Chelsea) and Jenna Fowlie(Chichester City Ladies)

9 When my team have the ball…. When the other team have the ball…..
Striker When my team have the ball…. Find space high up the pitch and call for the ball When I have the ball there are three options in this order…. SHOOT and score DRIBBLE the ball forward then shoot or pass PASS to a player in space When the other team have the ball….. Help my team to win the ball back Be in space ready for when we do win the ball back Strikers have lots more to do other than score, they should have lots of energy and be very brave! Good examples of ones you could watch include Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), and Shannon Albuery (Chichester City Ladies)

10 What does ‘goal side’ mean?
When you hear someone say ‘goal side’, it means that you need to be imbetween the player with the ball, and the goal you are protecting. Chi GK Chi player goal side (between the opponent and the goal chi are protecting) Player on other team (opponent) with the ball
