Sequence Student Expectations
Students identify the sequence of events in selections with or without clue words. Students recognize simultaneous events and flashbacks. Students put events into the correct chronological order.

Sequence How is the sequence of events important in the text?
Could this story have been written if some of the events had happened in a different sequence? Based on what has happened, what will most likely happen next?

Sequence Sequence refers to the order of events in fiction and nonfiction. Clue words such as first, next, last, and after can help you understand the order of events. Not all selections have clue words. Some selections include events that are happening simultaneously or out of order. Flashbacks present events out of order.

Sequence Dates and times can be very helpful in determining the sequence of a story. Graphic organizers help us order the events in a story.
