1 Imperfects and Perfects

2 Both are past verb tenses
Action of sentence took place before now Imperfect took place over time or more than once Perfect happened once and was done Example: Imperfect: I woke up every day last week. Perfect: I woke up this morning.

3 Ways to Translate the Imperfect
Verbed Was/were verbing Used to verb Kept on verbing

4 Imperfect of Sum Like usual, sum is a little weird.
What didn’t change? Sing (Lat) Sing(Eng) Plu(Lat) Plu(Eng) 1st Eram I was Eramus We were 2nd Eras You were Eratis Y’all were 3rd erat He/she/it was Erant They were

5 Imperfect of Regular Verbs
Start with 2nd principal part – the infinitive, the one that ends with –re Drop the –re Add a –ba- Add m, s, t, mus, tis, nt

6 Example Curro, currere Currere -> curre -> curreba ->
One trick: 4th conjugation adds an e before the b. So venire -> veniebam, not venibam. Sing Plu 1st Currebam Currebamus 2nd Currebas Currebatis 3rd Currebat Currebant

7 Imperfect Practice Conjugate these in the imperfect: Habeo, habēre
Pulso, pulsare Scribo, scribere Audio, audire Sum, esse (remember - it’s weird)

8 Habebam, bas, bat, bamus, batis, bant
Pulsabam, bas, bat, bamus, batis, bant Scribebam, bas, bat, bamus, batis, bant Audiebam, bas, bat, bamus, batis, bant Eram, eras, erat, eramus, eratis, erant

9 Tomorrow… We’ll talk about conjugating the perfect tense.
