17 Why is it important we chew our food?

18 Mechanical Digestion Our teeth are involved in the mechanical breakdown of the food we eat; this is the first stage of the digestion process. Chewing breaks up large chunks of food into smaller chunks which provides a LARGER SURFACE AREA for the next stage of digestion (chemical).
