Republican Gov’t (people rule through elected reps)
Elected people make laws/carry out gov’t on behalf of the people
Republic and representative gov’t mean the same thing
Limited Gov’t (gov’t powers strictly defined & given by the people)
Federalism (state gov’t and national gov’t share power)
Enumerated powers – specifically given
Reserved Powers – for the state
Concurrent Powers – shared btwn federal and state
Implied Powers – suggested but not directly stated in the Constitution
Constitution is the Supreme Law of the Land

Checks and Balances (stops one branch from being too powerful)

Individual Rights (Bill of Rights added in 1791)
US Constitution is one of the world’s oldest written Constitutions that is still in use!!
