4 Model Question How is the theme of evil deeds haunting those who commit them in“The Black Cat” developed through symbols? A symbol in “The Black Cat” is the cat. It represents karma. The cat always shows up right after he has committed an evil. It showed up after he murdered the cat and his house burned down and it showed up after he killed his wife. This develops the theme because the cat shows that one cannot outrun one’s problems because it seems to follow him anytime something bad happens.
