Presentation on theme: "Ecosystem Project: Step 1"— Presentation transcript:

1 Ecosystem Project: Step 1
Choose 3 organisms that live in your ecosystem. One should be a plant, one should be an animal, and one should be a microorganism. Describe the species and populations that each of these three organisms belong to, and how these two levels of organization are different Are these three organisms part of the same community? Why or why not? What other organisms might be part of the community? What things are part of your ecosystem that were not included in your community? Where are several places in the world that your ecosystem is located?

2 Ecosystem Project: Step 2
Identify three producers in your ecosystem and state their energy source Identify two herbivores in your ecosystem What do each of the herbivores eat? What eats each of these herbivores? Identify two carnivores in your ecosystem What do each of the carnivores eat? What eats each of the carnivores? Try to identify two omnivores in your ecosystem You must find at least one omnivore. If you cannot find two, that’s okay. Find an extra herbivore or an extra carnivore in the place of omnivores if you can’t find a second example. What do each of the omnivores eat? What eats each of the omnivores?

3 Ecosystem Project: Step 3
Using the producers, herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores you identified, create food web that shows how energy moves through an ecosystem by organisms eating each other. For each organism (and you should have at least 10), identify the organism as an autotroph or a heterotroph, and if for each heterotroph, if it’s a herbivore, omnivore or carnivore. You may add additional autotrophs and/or heterotrophs into your food web, if you’d like. Add at least two decomposers/detritivores to your food web. For your rough draft, you may do quick sketches of the plants and animals. For your final copy, you’ll either find pictures from the internet or draw neat sketches of the plants and animals to the best of your ability. This rough draft is due Wednesday before you leave class. Remember, you will have a Formative Assessment Quiz on Wednesday and Wednesday is a short class period due to Reward Time in the afternoon. Be sure to plan accordingly.

4 Ecosystems Project: Step 4
For your ecosystem, make two ecological pyramids. Be sure to label them with a title and units. Draw a sketch or write the names of the organisms at each level of the pyramids your draw. For each pyramid you draw, tell in three to five complete sentences why there are fewer secondary and tertiary consumers than primary consumers.

5 Ecosystem Project: Step 5
Choose either the Water Cycle or the Carbon Cycle Draw a diagram of how water OR carbon move through your ecosystem Include at least three places in your ecosystem where water OR carbon are located Include the transitions to/from these three places Write two to three complete sentences about how humans can impact your ecosystem’s water OR carbon cycle
