3 Fine Arts Programs Disappearing? Over The years Extracurricular Fine art programs like art class, music class, band, dance teams, & art clubs have slowly started to loose state and school funding. Fine arts has taken a backseat to curriculum in the school system with a new pressure for good test scores Many schools have completely lost funding for Fine arts and had to cut programs from their schools. Due to these cuts classroom teachers are having to find time to incorporate Fine Arts into classroom curriculum

4 Why are Fine Arts important? Fine arts are a critical part of our society & cultural heritage as Americans Data supports that study and participation in fine arts improves learning in all areas. Brain research shows neural development in fine motor skills and emotional balance due to practice in arts. Fine arts also benefits: Self-Esteem Motivation Aesthetic awareness Cultural exposure Emotional expression Social harmony & appreciation of diversity

5 Art Music Homemade volcanoes Have students make and decorate volcanoes Garden Tags Make & decorate tags for class plants Science journals Have students draw or paint ideas about science lessons as a form of reflection daily Sound Waves Use a variety of instruments and household objects to listen for sound waves – Link to several lesson ideas herehere Water bottle xylophone Experiment where students make xylophone instrument using water bottle filled with different water levels Ways to incorporate Fine Arts into Science

6 Art Music Pattern Creation Have students make intricate patterns with paper, pencils, crayon, and objects found in the room Measurement Art Have students use rulers and compasses to draw shapes and lines of specific dimensions to make an art piece Musical Fractions Use fractions to assist students in learning to read sheet music Equation songs Develop songs to help students remember order of operation, equations, and formulas. Ways to incorporate Fine Arts into Math

7 Art Music Story Boards Have students create a story board poster to accompany their favorite book Haiku Painting Have students write a haiku and make an ink painting to enhance it Musical Note Stories Write fill-in-the blank stories using music notes and their corresponding note letter Syllable clapping Have students sing and clap out their syllables when learning new words Ways to incorporate Fine Arts into Language Arts

8 Art Music History Murals Have each student decorate a tile for a specific event in history and put them together to form a mural Campaign posters Have student design and make a campaign poster for upcoming or past elections Star Spangled Banner Have students sing the star spangled banner and learn about the history of the song Musical culture exploration Pick countries and cultures and listen to different music from those cultures Ways to incorporate Fine Arts into Social Studies
