The Island of Curacao was settled by the Dutch. In “The Cay” Phillip describes the island as looking like The Netherlands, but with brighter colors. Here’s an aerial shot of the capital city of Willemstad.

10. In this picture, the pontoon bridge is being pulled back together after a ship has passed through. You can see the people are hurrying across the bridge, even before it’s closed!

11. This is an offshore oil refinery, like the one that Phillip’s father worked at. Oil was a major source of income for the people of Willemstad.
