2 Intro My name is Carl Spanoghe, and in this slideshow, I will explain what I have learned from UGP-100 and how I intend to use the lessons from this amazing class in my time as an undergraduate at GGU and beyond . . . Hello

3 A little background I was born to an international family, and grew up as a Third Culture Kid (TCK). This exposed me to a wide variety of cultures and ideas, and left me with a great appreciation of diversity. Like many TCK’s, I excelled in High School, then went through a hard time finding out who I was and focusing in my early 20’s. By 25, with a little planned happenstance, I got a great job at Fiserv. 4 Here and Now Now, at 31, I am a US citizen, happily married, feel at home in California, and am in a great career path at Fiserv. Currently a Technical Client Support representative, I have a development plan to grow my leadership and management abilities. As part of this, I have enrolled in GGU to complete my BA in Management with a certificate in International Business. This falls in line with what I learned by doing the self-assessment activities in UGP-100: that my skills and interests are in business development and management.

5 The Goal Based on my background, what I’ve learned with the self-assessments, and my interests, have decided on the following goal Become a leader of a international team within the next five years From there I will evaluate my life/career and work on developing into a strategic leader The distinguished look & gray hair is a stretch goal for the next 20 years

6 It Won’t Be Easy . . . I will need to take at least 3 classes per trimester to graduate in Spring This will be juggled with a full-time job that involves travel and unpredictable working hours. I will need to continuously gauge, build, and seek feedback on skills such as teaching and ability to compromise. I will have to go beyond the job description at work, and pro-actively work to improve the organization from my leverage point. On top of this, I’ll need to make time for fitness and networking, as well as family.

7 But I Can Do This With a concrete goal, I know what I am working for (and can remind myself when things get tough) Thanks to the reading and activities, and I now have the tools, knowledge, and strategy I need to succeed.

11 Conclusion I believe that by working hard, using what I’ve taken from UGP-100, and keeping my goal in sight, I will move into a leadership position within 5 years or less. I’ve kept this goal short-term and attainable with the idea that once I am there, I will be able to assess where I have come and create a new goal to become a strategic leader within an appropriate amount of time, and in an area that makes sense based on the skills and beliefs I will have developed. It is going to be hard work, but it will be purposeful and rewarding!
