-discuss options with your parent/guardian

Take initiative: use the website, ask questions, speak with your teachers and counselor to stay on track
Be responsible: when your assignments are due be sure to turn them in on time, study for tests, go to class prepared with all of your materials, be on time, get involved in the academic process, check the portal, choose your friends wisely
Advocate for yourself: ask your teachers questions when things are unclear, send your teachers s, communicate!
Be more independent: rely on yourself, you are on your way to becoming an adult

13. What About Summer School?
If you fail a class, you don’t get credits for it. No credits= No diploma
If you get a “D” in a class, the class can’t count toward a college application.
If you get an “F” or a “D” you have to re-take the class.
If you have to take summer school, it isn’t free. There is a fee for summer school classes.

21. Why Should I Complete A-Gs!?
Even if you are going to a community college, you have to take placement tests— the higher you place the faster you transfer
Keep strong study habits for use later in life and what you learn now can be applied later
You don’t want to limit your options to go to a university by not fulfilling the A-G requirements now!

23. Required Prerequisites for Honors
English – “A” in current course, teacher recommendation and Advanced on CST

Foreign Language – Choose language, teacher recommendation for level 1 or 2

24. Biology vs Honors Biology
The College Prep Biology class is 1 level more challenging than 8th grade science. Students are taught inquiry based using labs to guide most of the learning.
Honors Biology is 2 levels higher than 8th grade science. It is also inquiry based, but also prepares students for high level lectures in future sciences. Students interested in Biology Honors, should know it is:
Designed for students who will take AP Level classes Junior or Senior Year
Students should take Geometry concurrent with the course
Students will have one hour of HW per day with additional study time
Students must be motivated and dedicated to put work into the course

25. S.T.E.M. Engineering Future course:
Course 1:  Introduction to Engineering Design
Focus is on the design process used in engineering, from brainstorming an idea through 3D computer modeling
Course 2: Principles of Engineering
Students analyze, design, and build many different engineering systems to explore various technologies related to manufacturing processes and engineering systems.
Course 3: Digital Electronics
Focus is on learning how digital circuits work and obtaining professional skills of circuit construction.

First quarter eligibility will be determined by the semester grades received on the June report card. Summer school credits and grades for new course work will be counted toward making up credit and/or GPA deficiencies incurred during the grading period ending in June.
Grades are looked at EVERY QUARTER FOR ELIGIBILITY

35. RUHS Counselor Tips
If enrolled in Honors classes, be sure to visit the RUHS website for summer assignments/reading lists.
Get involved in RUHS summer sports activities, it is a great way to meet new friends.
Make an appointment with your counselor in order to develop your four year plan.
Remember, credits are important, you need 230 credits to graduate!
Use the portal daily to stay informed.
Visit the RUHS website regularly.
Naviance accounts will be created for you when you get to RUHS. Use Naviance!
Don’t fail a class, there are real consequences for failing. Summer school classes are no longer free.
Stay organized, be an advocate for yourself, get involved, get to know your teachers in order to develop relationships with them and have fun!
