2 Early Settlement Most people who came to America lived in the northeastern seaboard. Duh (pilgrims, Plymouth rock)!!! Today that area is known as a megalopolis A large urban/ commercial corridor where the major cities (Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC and New York) have all spread towards each other

4 Population Spread Today there are many large urban areas but most are still areas on the coast or along rivers. What state has the highest population?

6 Diversity America has always been known as melting pot.
Most all of us are the decedents of non-natives This diversity continues today

America is highly urbanized most Americans live in cities or suburbs As America grows and prospers there are a growing number of edge cities- suburbs with large employment and commercial centers Many Americans also live in ghettos

8 Ghetto Ghetto- parts of cities where disadvantaged citizens live because of economic pressure and social discrimination.

9 MONEY!!! The United State has prospered economically and we need to work to continue that prosperity. Reason 1: Resources- we have tons of them Reason 2: Industrial Growth-the US has always been on the front of industrial trends at all stages of land use

10 Money Problems Infrastructure:
it is old and needs maintaining. Roads, Factories, and planes all need billions of dollars of improvements a year or they may just go to other nations You: We need an educated workforce ready to do post industrial jobs better than the competition

11 International Trade The world is merging into one economy.
