1 Interpretations Matthew 15:3-9

2 Man’s Interpretations
Interpret - to explain or tell the meaning of : present in understandable terms” (Merriam-Webster) 4 For God commanded, saying, “Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, “Whoever says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— Matthew 15:4-5

3 From Truth to Interpretations
1. When the scriptures are twisted to say something it does not. All day they twist my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil. Psalms 56:5 …unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. 2 Peter 3:16b

4 From Truth to Interpretations
2. When a person “redefines” terms to fit their beliefs. He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, “Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5 But you say, “Whoever says to his father or mother, ‘Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”—

5 From Truth to Interpretations
6 then he need not honor his father or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. Matthew 15:3-6

6 From Truth to Interpretations
3. Sometimes interpretations are based on emotions. “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to “set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man's enemies will be those of his own household.’ Matthew 10:34-36

7 From Truth to Interpretations
1. When the scriptures are twisted to say something it does not. 2. When a person “redefines” terms to fit their beliefs. 3. Sometimes interpretations are based on emotions.

8 From Truth to Interpretations
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. John 17:17

9 The Importance of Truth
not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth. Titus 1:14

10 The Importance of Truth
Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying: 8 ‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ” Matthew 15:7-9

11 The Importance of Truth
For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 2 Peter 1:16-17

12 The Importance of Truth
I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. John 17:20-21

13 Conclusion 1. No such thing as “interpretations”, its truth or its not. 2. You are free to have opinions about most things, but when it comes to the Bible, there is only one truth. 3. God’s word & not man’s interpretations of it.
