September 2018 Special Area Super Heroes What’s Happening in Special Area???

2 Keeping You Informed! We see your kids once a week, every week! We thought it would be nice to let you in on what your little scholars are learning during Special Area. Let us know what you think! There is a short survey at the end of this presentation.

3 What’s happening in the Library???
Kindergarten Kindergarteners are focusing on learning the parts of a book, proper book care, and story listening skills. 1st Grade 1st graders are learning the parts of a book, proper book care, and how to choose a book in the Library. 2nd Grade 2nd graders are learning their way around the Library. They will begin with the fiction section and practice using their Library skills to choose a book and checkout a book independently. 3rd Grade 3rd graders have mastered the fiction section of the Library! They are using their Library skills to now choose a book from the shelves, check-in and checkout independently, and use our new reading spaces to enjoy their books! 4 What’s Happening in Music???
K – 2nd Grade Kindergarten through 2nd Grade are learning about rhythm and meter. 3rd Grade 3rd graders are preparing for their music program. This year’s theme is “Journey Into Outer Space!” Music Program Monday, October 22 3rd Graders in these classes will perform on Monday October 22nd. Mrs. Rosetti, Mrs. Mott, Ms. Poulos, Mrs. Forehand Music Program Tuesday, October 23 3rd graders in these classes will perform on Tuesday October 23rd. 5 What’s Happening in Art???
During the month of September, the Kindergarten and 1st grade Art classes will learn about shapes. Students will learn the characteristics of each shape and how to use shapes to make drawing easier. 2nd and 3rd grade Art classes will learn about lines and how lines are used when drawing. The last week of September, the 2nd grade Art students will create 3D sculptures of their favorite foods on paper plates which will be displayed in the cafeteria for National School Lunch Week! 6 P.E. News What’s Happening in P.E.???
All students are learning about hand-eye coordination and tracking skills. Students will be able to perform the basics of juggling scarves, tossing and catching bean bags, and bouncing/tossing/catching tennis balls. P.E. News What’s Happening in P.E.???

7 What’s happening in the Computer Lab???
In the Computer Lab, we are finally finishing the i-Ready diagnostic tests in Math and Reading for the beginning of the year! Students have learned about how to be safe on the Internet; specifically about cyberbullying, appropriate online behavior, and student responsibilities while participating in online activities. Soon, the 3rd grade students will begin typing lessons. They each will have a login name and password for typing.com where they can practice at any time. I plan to experiment with Google Classroom with my 3rd Graders. They have an account already assigned by the district, so we plan to access those accounts and begin using them for their assignments in the Computer Lab. Computer News What’s happening in the Computer Lab??? Whew!!! iReady Diagnostic Testing is OVER!!! Hooray!!!
