1 WHOLE CLASS INVESTIGATION

2 OUR FIRST WHOLE CLASS INVESTIGATION MATCH TRIANGLES
We made newspaper rolls and headed outside

3 We took the rolls from the first few students one at a time and began to build the match triangles pattern

6 When everyone had placed their roll down we counted the number of triangles that we had made

7 We discovered a pattern when we completed a table:
We then headed inside with our partner and did the same thing using paddle pop sticks. Our challenge was to find out how many sticks we would need to make 50 triangles. We discovered a pattern when we completed a table: Triangles Paddle pop sticks 1 3 2 5 7 4 9 10 21 17 35 22 45 37 75 50 101

8 We saw that you could figure out any number of triangles if you use the rule:
Double the number of For example: = 51 = 73 = 345 Miss Collis was so impressed with our thinking. Not only did we complete her challenge of 50 triangles with ease we made bigger challenges of our own! She called is an ‘aha’ moment and couldn’t stop smiling and we felt successful.
