2 Presentation outline The project in short Cooperation framework
User stories Main results incl. examples Concluding remarks 22 November 2018 Marja Tammilehto-Luode

3 Spatial Statistics on WEB – SSW
Collaborative project between Statistics Finland and the National Land Survey of Finland To improve services of the national geoportal from the viewpoint of statistics To gain experiences about an open source web application Focus on analysis tools for grid-based data Learning from each other – promoting cooperation between the NSI and NMA Funded with a Eurostat grant ( ) 22 November 2018 Marja Tammilehto-Luode

4 Cooperation framework
Supported by both DGs (SF and NLS) SF acts as the project leader Steering group (2 from SF and 2 from NLS + 2 project leaders) Project group (5 from SF and 4 from NLS) Grant agreement by SF + mutual agreement with the roles of both organisation Combination of traditional project methods and agile methods Software development by Scrum Communication in face-to-face meetings, by , Basecamp and slack, and via OSKARI online video reviews - later in youtube 22 November 2018 Marja Tammilehto-Luode

5 SSW-project group 22 November 2018 Etunimi Sukunimi

7 From user stories to analysis tools
SF writes user stories NLS translates them to several individual tasks NLS provides resources for application development/programming NLS supervises SCRUM team SF tests tools and gives feedback NLS adds supplements or corrections to a task SF tests and approves NLS publishes tools in ”Paikkatietoikkuna” 22 November 2018 Marja Tammilehto-Luode

8 Main results Interface service for spatial data and statistics for viewing and downloading – open data Integration of spatial statistics with other data belonging to the national spatial data infrastructure 201 map layers (WMS, WFS) by SF published in ”Paikkatietoikkuna” Developed Analysis tools (ANALYSE (BETA) on Web for spatial statistics Integration of developed tools to OSKARI platform – participating in OSKARI network in Finland – open source sofware development 22 November 2018 Marja Tammilehto-Luode

9 Start-up window of ANALYSE (Spatial analysis tools)
22 November 2018 Marja Tammilehto-Luode

10 Analysis results can be exported

11 Maps can be published on your own website

12 A case study using the Finnish National Geoportal for deciding the location of a potential waste burning plant

13 1) Selection of data

14 2) Searching the area of interest
22 November 2018 Marja Tammilehto-Luode

15 3) Defining potential sites

16 4) Defining the area of influence for a potential site

17 5) Clipping the data by buffer zones (areas of influence)

18 6) Calculating the population in the area of influence

19 7) Defining the Natura2000 protected sites in the area of influence

20 8) Measuring distances to the nearest protected areas

21 9) Comparing the analysis results of two potential waste burning plants
22 November 2018 Marja Tammilehto-Luode

22 Conclusions Open source application on the web feasible - Further development is promising (graphs and tables) Functionalities implemented, user interface still challenging Interoperable data and services require cooperation on many levels Inspiring cooperation between the NSI and NMA - Beneficial to both participants - Increased understanding of the role and value of each organisation - Supported exchange of knowledge on the latest developments, common standards… Cooperation with other Oskari platform users 22 November 2018 Marja Tammilehto-Luode
