1 On your whiteboard: 1-7. The fourth gospel includes 7 signs. What are they? 8. Why does the writer call them ‘signs’ rather than ‘miracles’? 9. What is his purpose in writing about them? 10. What do they tell us about Jesus?

2 How much symbolism can you remember?
Water into wine Healing Official’s son Healing at the pool Feeding 5000 Walking on water Healing man born blind Raising Lazarus

3 The Purpose of the Signs
To reveal God’s glory John 2:11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. John 20:30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. So we believe he’s the Messiah So we believe he’s the SoG

4 How do the individual signs contribute to John’s purposes?
Read the two scholars. Jot down next to each one: glory, messiah or SoG. Do the tasks.

5 Revision Task (HW for next week)
Make a big diagram/mindmap with the themes from the Prologue. Add the I Am sayings and the Signs, wherever they link in. Make as many links as you can, and explain how they link with that theme. Can be handwritten or on computer.
