Harmony 3 Grade Books for Elementary David Huckleberry Roosevelt Room April 20th 1:30pm – 2:15pm

2 This only needs to be done ONE time a year.
Setting Up Classes Elementary teachers set up each class/ subject at the beginning of the year. This only needs to be done ONE time a year.

3 Setting Up Classes To alleviate problems with setup and inconsistencies with subject names, the office can instead set up the subjects for the teachers at the beginning of the year!

4 Setting Up Classes If subjects were set up wrong or needs changes, touch the wheel icon in the Classroom…Grade Book view to edit the subject.

5 Rosters To view/print a roster, touch on the class name in the Classroom…Grade Book view. When printing the roster, you will receive a PDF with gridlines on it. You may also download to Excel

6 Attendance Attendance is submitted by touching the “take attendance” link. Previous absences recorded cannot be edited.

7 Grade Books Grade Books are set up at the beginning of each grading period. There is NO need to create new subjects!

Grade Books The most common error is the wrong grading period selected! Elementary grade books are always on Term 1. Harmony 3 grade books also need to have at least 2 category choices entered!

9 Grade Books-% By Category
Please note: If you use percentages by categories, a grade is figured for each category based on the weight of the category. Then the category grades are added together for the overall grade.

11 Assignments are entered in using the “New Assign” button.

12 Assignments Once assignments are entered in, you can open the assignment to view additional details. The average, high and low score will be figured for you A grade distribution will show the student grades. If you hover your mouse over a column, you will see the student names in that category.

13 Assignments If you touch on the letter grade a student has in the grade book, it will open up an assignment summary in a graph format.

14 PLEASE KEEP THIS CONCISE!
Did you know… Besides “E” for Excused and “I” for Incomplete, any letters can be entered AFTER the score as a note for parents/students. PLEASE KEEP THIS CONCISE!

15 Did you know… Teachers can touch the arrow next to the student’s name in the grade book to see more information about that student. The student demographics or student snapshot can be viewed right from here.

16 Did you know… Testing accomodations AND health notes entered on the student demographics will be visible to teachers within the grade book.

17 There is no need to go back to the main student view for these tasks!
Did you know… In addition, s, discipline records, or phone calls can easily be created on a student by touching the corresponding icons under the student picture! There is no need to go back to the main student view for these tasks!

18 Did you know… Progress/report card comments are entered here also. These appear under the corresponding subject on the report cards.

19 Did you know… The “Class Snapshot” is a great overall view for teachers of their class!

20 Grade Book Tools Grade Book Tools give teachers many options on things to do within their grade books.

21 Grade Book Tools- Assignment Summaries
Assignment summaries are a great quick reference to see all a student’s grades. These can be printed or ed.

22 Grade Book Tools-Adding Students
When adding students to your grade book, choose where you wish to add them at within the grade book.

23 Grade Book Tools-Adding Students
It is ESSENTIAL to choose the previous listing for the subject if the student was previously enrolled in the same subject. Picking “Enroll for the first time” does not bring forward previous grading period grades!

24 Grade Book Tools-Adding Students
If the new student has current grading period grades that DO NOT match up with your assignments, enter a “Transfer Grade” assignment to give the new student the appropriate grade Give all other students and “E” for that assignment.

25 Grade Book Tools- Removing Students
When removing students from grade books, an assignment summary will automatically be created for you. Please keep that assignment summary for future reference! If the student is reenrolled in your grade book, the grades will need to be reentered.

26 Adding and Removing Students
To alleviate problems with adding and removing students… Make sure the teacher of the class the student is leaving removes the student FIRST Once the student is removed from that grade book, the new teacher can add the student and pick the previous listing of the subject If done properly, the grading period history will follow with the student

27 Grade Book Tools- Missing/Incomplete Assignments
To see missing/ incomplete assignments: The “Missing/ Incomplete Assignments” option will highlight those assignments in the grade book The report option will print assignments summaries showing the missing/ incomplete grades

28 Grade Book Tools-Score Sheet
The Score Sheet option prints a report of grades by student ID number. This is useful for posting grades without student names!

29 Grade Book Tools-Grade Summary
The Grade Summary option prints a report of all grades that are finalized. These are the grades that will appear on report cards.

30 Grade Book Tools- Grade Summary Charts
The Grade Summary Report creates a graph of all grading period and term grades. If you hold your mouse over a column in the graph, it will display the students who are included.

31 Grade Book Tools- Change Preferences
The “Change Preferences” choice allows you to go back and change the settings on your grade books. Please ensure these settings are right before finalizing!!!

32 Grade Book Tools- Change Grading Scale
The “Change Grading Scale” choice allows you to change the grading scale for one student at a time. This lets you have particular students on a different grading scale than the rest of the class.

33 Grade Book Tools-Book Numbers
The Book Number feature allows you to record the book numbers that students have checked out to them.

34 Grade Book Tools- Clear Comments
Clear Comments allows you to mass clear all the comments listed under each student without individual modifying each one! This is recommended to be done at the start of each grading period.

35 Grade Book Tools-Mass Email
The Mass feature allows teachers to multiple students/parents in their class at one time!

36 Finalizing Grade Books
At the end of each grading period, grade books are finalized by touching the “Finalize” button. This process makes the grades available to the report cards.

37 Finalizing Grade Books
Teachers MUST review the settings and sign off on them before the grade book will finalize.

38 Finalizing Grade Books
It is recommended that the office go to Grade Book…Check Preferences and review the settings PRIOR to when teachers will finalize to prevent any issues.

39 Finalizing Grade Books
Finalized grade books will be in the “All Grade Books” view with the grading period listed next to it. If the grade book is finalized for the wrong grading period, please contact support. Simply changing the grading period does not move the grades appropriately.

40 General Grading Period Comments
General grading period comments can be entered in the Classroom…Skills Report Card view by touching on each student. These comments then appear at the bottom of report cards. If teachers already use skills, they can just add the comments to the bottom of their skills.

41 Report Cards Report cards are created in Classroom…By Homeroom. Select the students to create report cards for and touch the “Add New” button.

42 Report Cards Choose “Report Card PDF” for regular report cards
Choose “Report Card Skills PDF” for Skills report cards Choose “Report Card Standards PDF” for standards report cards The PDF can then be printed or saved.

43 Report Cards Report cards are then listed in Classroom…Report Cards and can be published to the family access from here!

44 Report Cards For end of year report cards, go to Classroom… Skills Report Card to enter a placement status on each student. This will appear on report cards.

45 Other important notes! Please use the “Close” button on appropriate screens. DO NOT use your back browser to exit items.

46 Other important notes! When using Harmony 3, please be sure to log out before you switch locations and use a different computer to access Harmony 3. The login currently does not time out for grade books.
