French Admiral Francois de Grasse anchors 29 warships in Chesapeake Bay Prevents British supplies from reaching Cornwallis Kept Cornwallis from escaping by sea French General Jean de Rochambeau and 7,900 troops met Washington and his army in Virginia September 14, 1781 Anthony Wayne and Marquis de Lafayette also converge on Yorktown
