NC State University: McKimmon Center Over 100 colleges will attend to discuss college admission with local high school juniors and seniors  Information Sessions Also Included Financial Aid Sessions Times: 2:45 & 3:45 Preparing for College Sessions Times: 2:30 & 3:30 Admission and parking are free

Conferences began September 17th. Check high school graduation credits and transcript Receive recommendation packet Discuss postsecondary plans (college, military, etc.) Finalize course schedule for Spring 2019

Future Ready Core Course of study 4 Math (Math I, Math II, Math III, Advanced Math Course) 4 English 4 Social Studies: World History, Civics & Economics, American History I, American History II 3 Science: Earth or an Environmental Science, Biology, and a Physical Science (Physical Science, Chemistry, or Physics) 1 Healthful Living 2 Elective credits (World Languages, CTE, or Fine Arts) 8 Electives TOTAL: 26 CREDITS

14 NC Academic Scholars Program
Recognition at graduation and Senior Awards Night Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 Includes third quarter grades from senior year Must have earned credit in Chemistry or Physics Must have taken at least three Honors or AP elective courses

15 Honor Graduates Will be recognized at graduation and awards night
Type of recognition will be determined by WCPSS (gold tassel? other item?) Must earn a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.75 or higher Third quarter grade is included. = cum laude = magna cum laude 4.25 and higher = summa cum laude

18 Fee Waivers (p. 3) If student is eligible, fee waivers are available for both SAT and ACT. Eligibility form can be picked up in Student Services. If waiver is used for SAT during senior year, student also qualifies for up to 4 college application fee waivers.

19 Wake Tech (Pgs. 3-4) Earn an Associate Degree or Certificate or enter into their College Transfer Program Accuplacer Test-Everyone must take for placement into classes. Certain ACT/SAT scores may waive the test; see counselor or contact Wake Tech for more details. Remember to apply early to secure a spot! For Fall 2019, apply immediately after first semester.

23 Transcript requests (Pg 1)
See this page for instructions on requesting transcripts for in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities. Student (not the counselor) is responsible for sending the transcript electronically. Please don’t wait until the application deadline to submit your request! Some colleges may require students to upload a copy of their transcript.

24 General Tips for College Admission (p. 5)
If applying to NC colleges, complete the NC Residency Determination application first Check academic requirements for admission Minimum GPA? Required courses? (fine arts, world language, etc.) Determine if additional materials are needed (resume, teacher/counselor recommendation, etc.)

Make sure your course schedule is finalized before you submit your application. Plan to submit your application several days prior to the application deadline. Make sure the STUDENT completes the application (not the parent) Ask multiple people (peers, parents, teachers) to review your application.

The College Board recommends applying to four colleges. Use your best judgement.

27 When To Apply Check college admissions deadlines
Some colleges may give preference to early applicants; check with your colleges of interest Many colleges will consider students for certain merit scholarships if they apply by the first or second deadline Receiving a decision before March is ideal for most students

31 College Visits Many college representatives visit CHS during lunch in the gym lobby. Stay informed! Seniors are allowed one college visit per semester. See attendance office for additional information. Advance paperwork must be completed. College Fair (p. 6)

Weds., 9/26: during all lunches in the gym lobby Parent Time: Wednesday, 9/26, 3-6pm in lobby in front of Main Office Cap/Gown Orders Orders/payments will be taken during SMART lunch TOMORROW (9/21) in gym lobby Orders/payments will also be taken on the first Thurs. of each month in the Student Services Career Center
