4 What is AIS Two or more interrelated components designed to achieve the organization’s goals (e.g. Order-to-Cash, Performance Management, Knowledge Management, Customer Relationship Management, Supply Chain, HR…) Collects, records, stores and processes data to produce information for decision makers. Enterprise system is a better way to describe this.

9 Course Learning Objectives
Explain the definition of an accounting information system and describe the basic functions it performs. Explain why system changes often create resistance and the need for comprehensive change management programs. Recommend technology, process and organization structures for our class project. Describe the role accountants play in today’s information intensive organizations. Describe how an accounting information system can provide management with information for better decision-making.

Understand common business transaction cycles. Create and use process maps to understand, evaluate and design enterprise systems. Create and defend your process map design for in-class cases, while comparing it to other designs and identifying its strengths and recommendations for improvement. Describe what a relational database is and how to use one to collect and analyze information. Create a relational database which helps address specific business requirements.

Create queries using Microsoft Access to answer business questions. Design business reports which address the business’ information needs. Explain basic control concepts and why system controls and security are important.
