Becoming a Disciple … is not akin to gaining a certificate or joining a club something we are given, fully formed passed on to us at baptism or confirmation to do with attending a church building Discipleship Task Group

Becoming a Disciple … is an active expression of venturesome love (from Beyond the Good Samaritan, Ann Morisy) a form of apprenticeship undertaken in community (from Following Jesus – the Plural of Disciple Is Church, Alison Morgan) summed up by the title We Make the Road by Walking Brian McLaren In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps show. Thus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me. (John Bell’s hymn, ‘The Summons’) Discipleship Task Group

Task Group purpose To suggest resources, both human and material, for those whom evangelism has helped bring to faith and which will allow the church family to support these new Christians on their journey. To encourage existing Christians to see their faith as a continuing journey involving change and being changed. Discipleship Task Group

6 Priorities from Action Plan
1 Audit current approaches and materials 2 Promote discipleship A. Launch this action plan at November 2017 Open Synod B. Discipleship in Mission Action Plans and parish profiles C. Develop collaborative, lifelong learning, sharing good D. Visit PCCs, Deaneries, LMDTs to point the way to resources/ approaches E. Continue to develop links by holding shared conversations F. Connect with initiatives to deepen spirituality and prayer G. Raise profile of the healing ministry as an integral aspect of discipleship H. Create and distribute publicity 3 Instigate provision and/or production of appropriate resources and courses A. Courses that enable disciples to grow made more accessible and available B. Consider writing own materials C. Courses about being a disciple Discipleship Task Group
