1 Gas Lift Workshop Breakout Session
Session Title: Gas Lift Terms and Equations Session Coordinator: John Martinez Title slide Keep the title brief and to one line? The second line (in smaller type style) is for the date of the presentation – depending on your presentation, you may also need to include Location and/or Presenter’s name/s and Job title if needed – as a such a second line may be used for these purposes. Do not include unnecessary information in your presentation title – starting off with clear and simple messages will set the style and focus the audience for what is to follow.

2 Breakout Session Details
Session Purpose: Develop consensus on basic terms and equations used in gas lift calculations for setting valve test rack opening pressure Number of Attendees Operating Companies – 2 Wayne Mabry – Shell Sam Wildman - Oxy Service/Supply Companies – 2 Josiah Haines – Senior Flexonics Rick Haydel - Altec University and Consultants- 2 John Martinez – Production Associates Omoteyo Omosebi – Univ of Oklahoma May 16 – 20, 2016 2016 Gas-Lift Workshop

3 API Gas Lift Handbook David McCalvin-Coordinating Editor
John Martinez-Technical Editor Workgroup: Mike Johnson-Chair Ian Schuur Greg Stephenson Reagan Wilkins May 16 – 20, 2016 2016 Gas-Lift Workshop

4 Primary Discussion Points
Point 1 – Develop consensus on basic terms, apply to all API documents, work with SPE Wikipedia to adopt terms, work with all service providers to slowly adopt the terms Point 2 – Assure that terms and equations correspond to prior work in API G2 Flow-control Devices for Side-pocket Mandrels (gas lift valves) annexes Point 3 – Use Ap/Ab term from Mfg data sheets, but include discussion on use of As (ball/seat contact area) if data available Point 4 – Obtain worksheets from all service providers to review commonly used terms for guidance May 16 – 20, 2016 2016 Gas-Lift Workshop

5 Terms May 16 – 20, 2016 2016 Gas-Lift Workshop

6 Terms May 16 – 20, 2016 2016 Gas-Lift Workshop

7 Basic Equations Valve in well: Pbt = Pvcd (1 - Ap/A b) + Ppd (Ap/A b)
Estimate unloading temperature F Ftc = Factor to correct Pbt from unloading to standard setting temperature, usually 60F (Use Rtc ?) Pb60 = Ftc * Pbt this equation applies in the test rack Valve in tester 60F): Ptro = P b60 / (1 - Ap/Ab) If Pa is atmospheric pressure and assumed as zero in tester compared to other pressures May 16 – 20, 2016 2016 Gas-Lift Workshop

8 Summary Key Points Standardize within API documents
Consider service provider terms Expand to SPE and software providers May 16 – 20, 2016 2016 Gas-Lift Workshop
