By use of words and graphics together, rather than words alone, an instructional designer can encourage and enable the learner to make sense out of the material.

Fact Concept Process Procedure Principle Graphic Type: Relevant factual images Definitions, examples, analogies Stage tables, animated diagrams Step-action tables, demonstrations Guidelines, varied context examples

3 Information Delivery Theory vs. Cognitive Theory
According to this theory, information should be delivered to the learner in whatever format (no distinction between words or pictures or …) Cognitive: According to this theory, the format in which information is delivered to the learner matters. It must enable and encourage learners to actively process information.
