2 Big questions for the week:
NO NOTES Focus on Curriculum: Comparison and Contrast; Using Multiple Sources to Draw Conclusions; Author’s Purpose and Cause and Effect What are magnet summaries? What is the author’s purpose in comparing and contrasting men and women? According to both articles, what are the causes for the differences in communication between men and women?

3 Word of the Day (3 minutes)
TAKE NOTES Word: Definition: Body Formulate a definition for Body. Explanation/Example Visual The body of the President’s speech focused on the serious concern of a new health care system. Don’t forget to create your visual!

4 Small Group Review NO NOTES Discuss questions from “We’ve Got the Dirt on Guy’s Brains” with a partner. Compare/Contrast answers Be sure all answers are written in complete sentences and use supporting detail from the article.

5 Magnet Summaries TAKE NOTES Time to be flexible! Look at the T-chart in your packet for Sex, Lies, and Conversation. Please cross out the sub headings: “The way men communicate…” and “The way women communicate…” Re-label the chart: “Subheadings” and “Summaries” Now divide your chart into 3 equal parts – horizontally (hamburger style) Label each box: Linguistic Battle of the Sexes, Listening to Body Language, and the Sounds of Silence

6 Magnet Summaries & Read Aloud
NO NOTES We are going to read and think aloud. We will stop after we finish each sub section in order to complete our magnet summaries. Please follow along and be better to read if called on.

7 Analysis Questions Time to Think-Pair-Ink-Share:
TAKE NOTES Time to Think-Pair-Ink-Share: THINK - Take 3 minutes to THINK about the analysis questions on the back of your magnet summaries chart. PAIR - After 4 minutes, turn to a partner to compare answers. INK – Now write your answers on the worksheet. SHARE – Be prepared to discuss your answers with the class.

8 Dr. Phil Letters Narrative Extended Responses
NO NOTES You will write a letter to Dr. Phil. You will then answer your letter from Dr. Phil’s point of view. The letter should ADDRESS a conflict that you are having with a member of the opposite gender. The problem may be made up (I’m sure you never fight with your father, brother, boyfriend, etc.)  The response (Dr. Phil’s answer) should use supporting details from both articles to help solve the problem. Please refer to the examples on the handout for additional directions.
