2 What is Motion? Motion: The change in position of an object in respect to its reference point (point of origin) This can be done by measuring the change in position and the direction it traveled

3 Term associated with motion
Position: Location of an object Determined by distance and direction - Displacement Direction: the line or path along which an object is moving, pointing, or aiming Ex: up, down, left, right, forward, backward, toward, etc Speed: How far something will move in a given period of time

4 Speed Speed DOES NOT mean that the object is going fast!!!
Speed can be calculated using the following formula: Speed = Distance ÷ Time

How long it took something to move a particular distance Velocity How long it took an object to move a particular distance and direction.

7 Practice Sarah rides her horse 18 miles in 2 hours. What is her average speed in miles per hour? An airplane flies with a constant speed of 960 km/h. How far can it travel in 4 hours? Noah rides his bike with a constant speed of 20 km/h. How long will he take to travel a distance of 70 kilometers?

8 Practice A police car drives with a constant speed of 60 miles per hour. How long will it take to travel a distance of 180 miles? An airplane flies with a constant speed of 880 km/h. How far can it travel in 4 hours? Mike rides his horse 20 km in 1/2 hour. What is his average speed in kilometers per hour?
