1 Revelation Part 3 Lesson 8

2 The Times of the Gentiles
Luke 21:20-24 Jerusalem surrounded by armies vs. 20 Its desolation is near vs. 20 People are to flee from the city vs. 21 Days of vengeance to fulfill what is written Great distress on the land/earth vs. 23 Wrath on this people, the Jews vs. 23 Fall by the sword/captive to nations vs. 24 Will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles UNTIL: the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled

3 Luke 21:25-28 JUST BEFORE Jesus’ 2nd coming
Signs in sun, moon, and stars vs. 25 Dismay/distress among nations on earth Perplexity at the sea and waves vs. 25 Men fainting from fear and expectation vs. 26 The powers of the heavens shaken vs. 26 TIMES OF THE GENTILES: Some think: 70 A.D. Some think: 586 B.C. Lasts until Jesus’ 2nd coming

4 Matt. 21:33-46 Parable About the kingdom of heaven vs. 2
Parable about the chief priests and elders of Israel As the religious leaders, they should have been prepared for the kingdom Kingdom (vineyard) would be taken away from them (vine growers) Given to sinners (Gentiles) who repented and bore fruit

5 Matt. 22:1-14 Parable The king who gave a wedding feast for His son King is God the Father The Jews, Israel, were the invited guests They were unwilling to come King’s slaves were the prophets King sent armies to destroy these “murderers” and set their city on fire A.D. Romans Others were invited – Gentiles

6 Matt. 22:1-14 Parable To be a part, one had to be dressed properly
Rev. 3:4-5,18; 4:4; 6:11; 7:9, 13-14; 19:8,14 The bride of the Lamb clothed herself in fine linen, the righteous acts of the saints. “Many are called, but few are chosen” Many were invited to the wedding feast Few came – they were the chosen

7 Romans 11:1-10 God has NOT rejected His people vs. 1-2
Old Testament example of the present remnant vs. 5 Elijah told God he was the only one left Lord said He had kept for Himself 7,000 Israel did not recognize the time of her visitation (before 70 A.D.) Israel did not obtain the kingdom by works of the Law, but by the grace of God’s choice John 1:11-12 He came unto His own, but…

8 Romans 11:11-15 Israel did not stumble so as to fall, did they?
Fall: to fail of participating in, miss a sharing in the Messianic salvation; sin. Not permanently, no. God has not rejected His people Israel Their temporal rejection is OUR salvation Rom. 1:16 Gospel came to the Jew first Matt. 10 Jesus came to the lost sheep/Israel When the Jewish nation rejected the gospel, it went to the Gentiles.

9 Cross References Acts 11 First account of a group of Gentiles believing the gospel John 10 Jesus said He has other sheep Eph. 2 No distinction between Jew and Gentile in the church: one body of Christ Gal. 3 God told Abraham about salvation to the Gentiles: It was always part of His plan Acts 9 Paul was to take Jesus’ name to Gentiles

10 Romans 11:11-15 One purpose of Gentile salvation is to make Israel jealous, leading to its salvation Israel’s fulfillment and acceptance is called “life from the dead” A lump of dough: Jews Holy Root and branches Root holy, branches holy Some branches broken off because of unbelief: but they CAN be grafted back in Wild olive branch/shoot = Gentiles Continue in unbelief: Cut OFF don’t be arrogant

11 Romans 11:25-32 Mystery: a partial hardening has happened
Lasts until the fullness of the Gentiles comes ALL Israel will be saved Deliverer will come from Zion He will remove ungodliness from Jacob God’s covenant with them when He takes away their sin (not just covers it) Zech. 13:7-9 Israel will be cut off and perish but 1/3 will be left to be refined and tested Happens at the 2nd coming of Christ/Daniel’s 70th week

12 Times of the Gentiles NOT the same as the fullness of the Gentiles
The Jews NOW seem to be enemies of the gospel, but they’re still God’s chosen nation He will still show mercy to them as a whole Because ALL Jews and Gentiles have been disobedient, ALL need His mercy God’s wisdom, knowledge and judgments are too deep for man to understand. HE is the source of all and the only one to receive glory

13 Application I Cor. 15 defines the gospel
Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures His burial was proof of His death He was raised the 3rd day according to the Scriptures His appearances prove His bodily resurrection He appeared to over 500 at one time! People need to hear the gospel: It is their only hope in this world; the only TRUTH there is.
