3 Schizophrenia. . . Affects more than 2 million people in the US
Is a medical illness Is a biologically-based brain disorder Has no one defined cause Does not make people more violent than those without it Causes 50% of psychiatric hospitalizations Affects more than 2 million people in the US Manifests in 75% or people between ages of 15 and 25 Is not a choice, the result of bad parenting, or due to a character flaw or weakness Is not “multiple personalities”

4 Symptoms of Schizophrenia
Positive Symptoms: Delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking Negative Symptoms: Flattened affect, avolition/lack of motivation Cognitive Symptoms: Attention issues, memory retention, executive functioning

5 Instructions for the Simulation
Complete all stations while listening to the headphones Do not speak with each other about the content of the recording during the simulation On several occasions, the voices may stop for up to a minute If you feel uncomfortable, upset, etc., you may stop the simulation by removing your headphone Please adjust the volume in the beginning and then do not readjust
